I got a job! I will be the new Development Specialist at the College of Southern Maryland. I think it will look a little like what I did at Wash U, except that it's a pretty big step up the ladder, which is really nice. The nature of the work will be different in that this is a community college, so there's not quite as strong or loyal alumni base to focus on. A lot of the donations for this college come from the community, like businesses who really rely on the school for training new talent. Also there will just be two of us doing development for the entire college, as opposed to 9 people to do development just for the business school (about 150-200 people worked in development at Wash U). But I'm really looking forward to doing more event planning and getting to make more of the decisions for each event. Also, I'll have more relationship building and fundraising responsibility. I think it will be a fun new challenge, and I really think I'll get along well with all the people I interviewed with.
I start on September 8, which is really nice too. That means I have exactly two weeks starting today to enjoy the rest of my summer without worrying about looking for a job. My parents are coming in town this weekend, I'm going to the beach next Monday, and we're going to Raleigh to visit friends over Labor Day weekend. There is a lot of fun to pack into the next two weeks!! Then come September 8, let the routine begin.
Thanks for everyone's prayers as I searched far and wide (quite literally) for a new job in a new place where I don't really have any connections. I have felt tons of support, and I think this is going to be a great place to be.
