Snow will make you do crazy things...

As previously mentioned, we all had a great time in the snow, but Nacho's tender paws couldn't handle it for too long. AND as you all know, I have an extremely resourceful husband. And this Southerner was not about to let a few cracked, chaffed paws keep us and our pup from maximizing our snow time. Solution: homemade doggy leg warmers.

Bless Nacho's little doggy heart... he will let us (namely, Schub) do ANYTHING to him.

Now don't think that these are just as simple as a pair of socks rubberbanded around his legs. No no. These leg warmers had a layer of ankle socks around his feet, a plastic grocery bag over his whole leg, and the tall athletic sock pulled up over the plastic bag. As eager as he may look right now, I think he was staring out the window saying "Don't make me go out there like this."

aaannnnddd... they made it less than 10 feet out the door before the first one came off. But they kept walking. And it was less than another 10 feet before the second one came off. They were back inside in under a minute. Also, I must humbly correct myself. Schub just walked by and said "They were not leg warmers. They were paw protectors. I was trying to protect him."

Also, if we had at all disguised ourselves as being locals, this probably gave us away. As all our neighbors were out shoveling snow off their walkways and from behind their car tires, my husband was on top of his truck SWEEPING the snow away with a broom.

The snow did begin to melt a little yesterday, but in the end I think we got about 15 inches. We finally ventured out to Pizza Hut about a mile down the road yesterday with some neighbors. It took us at least 10 minutes to get there. The roads are still terrible. But I'm not bothered. I'm home from work today :-)

Time to Warm Up!

I don't know if you know it or not but Nacho has about zero body fat. So after about 30 minutes he had to come in and warm up a little.

When I was drying off his paws I noticed that he had been playing a little to hard. All of the running around in the snow bare foot, rubbed some raw spots on the pads of his feet. So...

I cleaned them out with peroxide and put some Neosporin on them to heal them up. I didn't want to get any grease on the couch or Nacho to eat it so I put these socks on his feet. I think he liked them.

Do you think I'm crazy? I think shepherds do this kind of thing for sheep. Anointing their wounds with oil. That's what a pastor is, right, a shepherd? Just practicing the care of God's creatures. Maybe I'll have to figure out some way to protect his paws so we can go play again later this afternoon. There's got to be some way to make some dog gloves or something. Don't they do that for sled dogs running in the Iditarod?

BLIZZARD WARNING IN KING GEORGE

There is officially a blizzard warning in King George....a Blizzard!!! Here is the map to prove it.

I think we are going to end up with more than a foot of snow!!!

I think my truck looks like it has a smile on its face... what do you think? Can you see it?

We met up with our friends the Harringtons and Nacho and Kobi had a blast!

I don't know if you can tell but in this picture Nacho is making a snow ball. Right after this he threw it right in Kobi's face. Nacho.....the trouble maker.

The coolest AND warmest dog on the block

Let's just get this out there - Yes, I blog about our dog like he is our child.

Moving on... This post is actually for Jeannie, who when I told what we were doing said "oh my goodness. please take pictures and put them up so I can laugh."

Everyone already knows that Nacho is the coolest dog on the block. Now he is also going to the WARMEST dog on the blog. Jason and I are both pretty opposed to dressing up your dog. I mean, they're dogs. They're not people. They're not meant to wear sweaters, etc. BUT poor Nacho has ZERO fat on his body (we still haven't been able to get him to gain much weight) and his hair is so short that he's already started shivering when we take him on walks (it's only really gotten down to like 40) so we can't really imagine how cold he will be when it's like 25 degrees with snow on the ground. We looked into buying him a very basic dog coat, but Mr. Frugal... Mr. Stick-it-to-The-Man, Mr. Resourceful (see previous post) wouldn't dare spend $15 on something that is basically a vest for dogs when we could just give him hand-me-downs. Nacho's chest is too wide to fit into any of my vests, so Schub decided he could tear apart an old Carhartt jacket (anyone remember the Bible he made out of an old pair of Carhartt pants with Jan Sherard?) and make his own jacket for Nacho.

Luckily we have another friend who also loves to stick it to The Man, and happens to be quite good with a sewing machine. So the other night we went over to the Littlejohns (we LOVE this family) for dinner and coat-making.

First, a peak at how cute their girls are when they eat ice cream...

After dessert and bedtime stories, the Dog Coat Fabricators got to work amputating the dear old Carhartt jacket.

... the outcome.

Then they needed to measure their client so that the jacket would be very tailored and flattering.

"Take it in a little on the sides, please"

The design of this tailor-made jacket was far too complicated for the Dog Coat Fabricators to finish it one night, so Nacho will have to come back after Christmas for some more measurements before the final product. Stay tuned!!

A Shower for Dana

You know... like a bridal shower. Dana had her first wedding shower this weekend! I was able to drive down to Charlotte and help "host" (if bringing some food and getting my name on the invitation is considered hosting?) this super fun shower with Brooke and several of Dana's friends. It was so so cute, and it was great to meet Brad's mom and aunts and a bunch of Dana's friends. Dana's colors are going to be a deep eggplant purple with orange and green accents. Check out these awesome cupcakes with her new monogram!!

Gotta have the ribbon bouquet... great job Brooke.

Classic Clerico Chocolate Chip Cookies/recipes for all.
sisters :-)

And one with mom. Anyone else think I look like I'm adopted? Seriously... they all look alike.

the happy couple...

and a cute one of Griffin just for kicks!
