Yes Adelaide is 16 months old now. I feel like sometime in the last month or two she officially moved from baby to toddler.
I'm trying to think of of what Adelaide is like now that she is 16 months old and not a baby anymore. I haven't posted in a while so this might be way too lengthy.
- At her 15 month appointment she was 30inches tall (50th%) and aaaaalmost 19lbs - 3rd%. Yes, our already-peanut-girl dropped from the 10th to the 3rd percentile in the last 3 months. She had grown 2.5 inches though, so the doctor wasn't really concerned. She just said that she's putting her calories toward growing in height (and running, climbing, dancing, spinning, etc.) instead of weight.
- That being said, Adelaide is a good eater - in that she pretty much likes all food. She can be finicky, though, about
when she wants to eat. Our timeline for meals/snacks is not necessarily hers. We have learned not to push snacks too much b/c when she skips an afternoon snack she usually eats a better dinner. Also, we have started trying to enforce "take one bite" or "eat this FIRST and THEN you can have that." That usually ends in a lot of crying b/c we won't let her have whatever she wants first.
- She loooves to use a fork and looooves to dip things in things. She always wants to dip her strawberries in peanut butter, her broccoli in parmesan cheese, etc. In fact, we can get her to eat almost anything if we sprinkle parmesan cheese on it.
- We just moved her to a front-facing seat. I know they are supposed to be 20 lbs, so we are just assuming that with clothes on she hits the mark :-) It actually hasn't been quite as exciting of a change as we hoped - facing forward makes it a lot harder for her to fall asleep in the car, and in general she just hates to be restrained so she tends to be a little discontent in the carseat these days.
- She says a few words and mimics a lot of sounds. She can communicate pretty much anything she wants, though, and definitely understands the majority of what we say. Adelaide knows a few signs, and we've noticed that when we ask her say words that she knows the sign for, she won't try to say it - she just signs it. So recently instead of asking her to say "please" when she wants something, we've been asking her to say "May I." We say "can you say may..." and she screams "IIIIIII!!" She actually won't say "may." She thinks it's like a fill in the blank game that she knows the answer too. It cracks me up.
- She LOVES Nacho. The VERY first thing she says when she wakes up in the morning is "NAAAA!!" We pull into the driveway and she says "Naaaa!" She helps Jason feed him every morning and every evening. She hugs him all the time, always wants him to come into the bathroom when she takes a bath, and has to tell him "night night" before she goes to bed.
- Right now she loves her baby doll, her musical instruments, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (or "hot dog" as she calls it), and books. Her favorite books are: Good Night Gorilla, Baby's First 100 Words, and Dr. Seuss' Foot Book (and a few others). She also loves songs. She LOVES "itsy bitsy spider" and the ABCs. She has one of those leapfrog alphabet sound things on the fridge, and you pretty much get her to dance 100% of the time you play the ABCs on that thing. Also, singing songs in the car ALWAYS calms her down. She thought it was hilarious the other night when Jason and I tried to sing "Frere Jacques" in a round.
Not the greatest picture, but she snuck away this morning to read books in her secret corner (otherwise used as her pooping corner - no joke)
"Show me your teeth"
"Now show me Nacho's teeth." (Nacho is such a good sport, by the way. I am so grateful for this dog.)
A good belly laugh.
