Larger Than Life Diagram!!!!

In case anyone was unclear as to where my eyeball was injured by the highly toxic and dangerously corrosive alkaline melt-your-cornea cleaner, i constructed this larger than life diagram to warn others of the dangers of going goggle-less. My hand is marking the approximate location of the incident.

Thank you, Christy Spink

Our neighbor Christy made an exciting discovery a few weeks ago. She has since introduced us to the wide array of inexpensive soft drinks offered at the local QT (that's the Quick Time gas station, for anyone who doesn't know). Jason and I have often seen people with giant plastic QT cups, but I guess we just figured that they like to go inside the gas stations when filling up their tank. Little did we know that it is worth making a stop at the gas station just to get this 32 oz plastic cup filled with your favorite soft drink (or iced tea) for only $.69. That's right! 32 oz drinks for $.69.

We were so overwhelmed by the wide variety of options, including a choice of cubed ice or crushed ice, that we were apparently slowing down the regulars. As we stood back trying to decide between diet or regular, a shot of vanilla or a shot of cherry, a woman abruptly barged herself in front of us with her a giant plastic mug. With cubed ice, 3/4 Diet Dr. Pepper, 1 shot vanilla, 1 shot cherry, and another 1/4 Diet Dr. Pepper, she knew EXACTLY what she wanted.

And so went our first experience at QT. Now I understand why everyone stops there on their way to work in the morning. What a deal. And I thoroughly enjoyed my soda - with that awesome crushed ice like at Zaxby's - with our dinner at Sculpture Park, paired with a good cover band and a good movie. It was a great night! Thank you, Christy Spink.

Schub's eyeball

In case anyone has not yet heard, Schub's eye was given an A-OK by the doctor last week. For anyone who anyone else who has not even heard the story yet... it's a good one. 2 Saturdays ago, Schub and some other guys from our church were helping a woman remove mold from her basement. They seemed to be set with gloves and a mask over their mouth/nose to protect them from the industrial strength alkaline powder they were using. oh, minus one thing - goggles. so of course, as Schub was scrubbing the powder into the floor, the bristles of the brush flicked some of it up into his eye.

He immediately started rinsing it out in a sink as someone else called me and very calmly said "we just thought you should know what happened, but everything looks like it's going to be fine." So I didn't think too much of it and continued my shopping. Until, that is, 30 minutes later they called again and said "We just talked to poison control and we think you should take him to the emergency room." That's when I started to panic, my first thought being "He will never get to see our children!" haha.

So we go to the ER and they saw him immediately. They hooked his eyeball up to this giant plastic suction cup looking thing. Schub had to lay on his side for an hour and a half as they pumped saline solution into his eye and let it drip into a pan. I have never seen him more miserable. I mean, he would just lay there and kick his legs and moan a little. It was quite sad. Anyway, 3 hours later, we left and had to pick up 3 medications. I, of course, was the administrator of the at-home eye drops, which basically made me feel like I was torturing my husband. Again, the kicking and moaning. On top of that, everytime someone came over to see how he was doing he would cry, which made his eye burn even more.

It has healed quite a lot though. In fact when he went to the doctor again last week, the doctor could hardly tell which eye had been injured. He did say, though, that if that stuff had hit his cornea it would have MELTED it! He was really lucky - which none of the doctors failed to make a joke about: "Good thing you were doing church work, or God might not have been so nice." or "Presbyterian, eh? Are you considering switching to Methodist after this incedent?" Everyone had some sort of pastor joke. Anyway, we are set now with a pair of goggles for all occasions. From removing mold to doing the laundry, Schub will never let us go unprotected again.

Beard Art!

Many people have become famous through creating art in various media. Some have prefered paint, some metal, others stone, or pencil, or crayons. Up to this point sadly i think deep inside i have been an artist in search of a medium to work in. That is until now. I believe i have found it, my niche.....FACIAL HAIR!! Enjoy.

Finally something to write about - Jason's Surprise Bday Party!

As most everyone knows, we had a surprise birthday party for jason on Saturday. Theme: FIELD DAY!! Everything turned out really great. Especially the fact that Jason was actually very very surprised! He literally did not have a clue that anything was going on. Not even when we pulled up! We sat in the car for like 45 seconds when we got there as he tried to put together all the pieces. I'm sure everyone was like "um, the party's out here!" We had a great crowd - thanks everyone for coming! And of course, we played lots of games. We had three-legged races, potato sack races, wheelbarrow races (from which I was sore the next day!), inner tube races, and an egg-on-spoon relay. I think everyone had a good time... and most importantly jason had a really good time! In fact (not to toot my own horn) Jason said it was the best birthday he had ever had :-) Here are a few highlights of the day:

He was really, actually surprised!

Potato sack race - this was serious business.
