For Addy...

Conversation prior to this picture...
L: Let's put Nacho in an orange tie and take a picture for Addy to show her how excited he is to meet her too.
J: Does she like to play rough? If not she's gonna go home cryin'.

Can't wait for Liz, E, and ADDY to visit this weekend!!

Spring and a break

The weather this week was BEAUTIFUL and just in time for my 3-day spring break. Wash U did not give spring break to staff, so this was a welcome surprise from my new job... benefits of working at a school. I think it has been about 70 degrees without a cloud in the sky for the past 5 days or so. It puts me in quite the good mood. And of course Nacho loves it as well. He paws to go outside, lays on his towel (that we have to move around for him so that it's in the sun... otherwise he'll lay in the mud to follow the sun) for about 15 minutes, paws to come in, gets some water, and then paws to go back out and do it all over again.

I decided that I should try to read a book over my Spring Break. So, I at least started a book. Last Mango in Texas, courtesy of Brooke Edging. Notice the shorts and flip flops. I actually got HOT sitting outside. It was amazing.

Hello world.

And the Reverend (j/k... he's not really a reverend yet) even came outside to do a little studying (in his work clothes, of course).

And Nacho moved to sit at his master's feet.

Details, Details

Soooo... yes! We are pregnant! Here are a few more details.

We are due October 3, which puts me at about 11 weeks right now.

Yes, I've been sick. Pretty darn sick, if I do say so. But I know it could be a lot worse, and I know it's the sign of a growing baby, so I'm trying not to complain too much (thank goodness for Zofran). And I THINK I'm over the worst of it. At least today and yesterday haven't been too bad, so hopefully that's a sign of things being on the up-n-up.

We got to hear the heartbeat around 6 weeks, which was very cool. And we got this ultrasound picture where they claim that the little white blob to the left is a baby.

YES we are going to find out what we're having.

I'm hoping for a girl so that I can put her in cute little girl clothes. Mr. Practical is hoping for a boy so that we get all our nephews hand-me-downs. But we will both be ECSTATIC either way.

We will be delivering at Civista Medical Center in La Plata, MD, which is the town I work in. For as far away as King George is from everything, and considering the hospital is in another state than we live in, it actually only takes about 25 minutes to get there. It's definitely the closest one to where we live and it makes it convenient for appointments because I'm already out there for work.

I don't think I'm "showing" yet, but I am definitely doing the rubberband trick with my jeans already. It's just much more comfortable that way. In fact, I don't know why I haven't been doing that long before I was pregnant. This is me last week, so at 10 weeks.

Schub has been spoiling me like crazy. I haven't cooked in over a month, he goes to the grocery store at the drop of a hat, and he holds my hair back for me while I puke. He's been very patient with me while I complain and can't decide what I want to eat and don't feel like hanging out. He is seriously going to be the best dad ever.

We are really excited and are just praying for a healthy baby and grace in parenting an actual human being for the rest of its life. It is quite a daunting responsibility, but we know it will also be so fun and so rewarding.

Oh yes, and Nacho is very excited as well. I'm pretty sure he really does know because he has been sniffing my belly lately and always lays outside the bathroom door while I puke. What a great dog.

Bragging rights

So, I just have to brag here for a minute that my sister Brooke has had one of her photos featured on the website I Heart Faces TWO weeks in a row now. Last week she was one of Amy & Angie's picks in the Hands-on Fun contest (hers is the picture of little Griffin's hands playing with a train set by Brooke B). This week she was guest judge Pam's 3rd place pick for the Hilarious Outtakes contest (the one of Noah drinking from the hose by Brooke B).

She's got mad skills with the camera.

Who Said White Men Can't Jump?

I have photographic proof that I still have some ups! Click on this LINK and look at this wedding picture. If you click on the proof you will see that of all the groomsmen in this diverse wedding party, I (as a white man) am the highest jumper! The trick will be to demonstrate this as a pastor when I get a robe. Is it proper to jump in a preacher robe?

Wedding of the Century

Hello faithful readers. We are not dead. We're back. No excuses; we were both just lazy/slightly tied up over the last few weeks.

Last weekend was so so exciting because our family expanded again to embrace Bradford Hedgepeth as my sister Dana's new husband. They are an awesome couple (check out their blog and hear about their upcoming adventures teaching in China next year!) and my mom is an awesome party planner. The entire weekend was beautiful and perfect and had so many personal and thoughtful touches to it. I must be honest - and most of you who know me will be shocked to hear - that I didn't take any pictures the entire weekend. nope. zero. none. not one. There was just so much going on and so many other people with cameras that I just didn't feel like it was necessary. Naturally, now I wish I would have. So I have compiled OTHER people's pictures from facebook for your enjoyment.

(BROOKE - totally not trying to steal your picture glory here. I will give you all the credit. I was just going to link to your blog when you updated, but since you haven't yet, I got anxious and couldn't wait to show them off. sorry.)

*these first 6 pictures are courtesy of my sister Brooke. She took TONS more amazing pictures, so when she puts them on her blog, I will post the link.

Does Dana not look absolutely STUNNING here??

It was so so good to see relatives that we usually go years without seeing. I so wish we all lived closer!

Dana and my beautiful, dedicated mom

The happy couple!!

This is just a peak at the ring bearers oh-so-cute outfits. I'll wait for Brooke to post how adorable they were in their tuxes holding the pillow. And Miles, Noah and Mason (flower girl) all did awesome!

*The rest of these pictures are courtesy of Dana's friends that I stole from facebook. Thank you Christi Rostin, Becky Atkinson, and Neely Vasher.

I think this was right after the first dance with my dad :-)

I LOVE this picture because this guy (yes, the one with his hand raised high) was my sister's senior prom date in high school. They have remained great friends, and I feel like this gives me a glimpse into what that night in 1994 must have been like. Fun times.

This, my friends, was the lead singer of the band. He helped the whole aquarium get down that night. They were awesome.

The amazing cake

One more of the happy couple.

Dana and Brad - we are so so excited for you guys. You could not be more perfect for each other and we are so excited to have many years of family holidays and vacations together. Your night was beautiful and perfect and we were both so honored to be part of it.

For their professional pictures, you can click here for the slide show (just a some of the hundreds of pictures that are already compiled into a sample album). Enjoy!
