For our Chinese Hedgepeths

Items we used this week:

The hot dog toaster...

Which makes very delicious hot dogs :-)

And Chinese pajamas...

bahahahaha... that last picture cracks me up. For those who may not know, babies in China do not wear diapers. Apparently, they just wear pants with holes in the butt and poop all over the street.  Dana and Brad did not want us to feel left out of this cultural experience. Thanks guys. We should have left Adelaide's diaper off. We'll have to take one where you can see her buns. hahahahaha.

Can't wait to see you guys in August!!!!!!!!!!!

The Homegirl

Well, Adelaide is already 8.5 months and she is learning SO MUCH. Jason and I are seriously amazed every day at what she is able to do each do.  She has so much personality these days. It has been really fun. I will try to keep this short.
  • This is the first month that she hasn't had a weight check so I don't know how much she weighs.
  • Still sleeps 11 or 12 hrs at night (black out curtains have been a life saver for us on these early sunrise summer days), and takes 2 naps (1.5 - 2 hrs at a time).
  • No more teeth... still just the bottom two.
  • She is eating a lot more solid foods and loves to feed herself. We try to feed her with a spoon and all she wants to do is run her fingers through the food and then run her fingers through her hair. So it's just better sometimes if we give her chunks of food that she can pick up and them chew with her little gums.  Tonight for dinner she had ground beef, cheese, and raspberries.
  • She's making more consonant sounds, including...... MAMA!!! yay! haha. I've been waiting for that one for a long time. Of course, she doesn't really know what she's saying, but it's fun when people hear her say "mama" and they say "oh! She loves her mama!" and I just nod and say "yes she does :-)"
  • Words that she definitely knows: "Adelaide," "no," and "Nacho."  If Jason says "where's mommy?" She sits there and plays with her toys. If I say "where's daddy?" she sits there and plays with her toys. But if we say "Where's Nacho??" She immediately looks up and looks around until her eyes fall on Nacho and then she stares at him and smiles. hahaha.
  • She still mostly just pulls herself up on any and everything, but she is starting to try to let go and stand (and immediately falls), and she's actually able to push on a few things and walk a bit. Here's some video we took of her on Father's Day.

  • Her hair is indescribably long. Pigtails are literally my only option if I want it out of her face (she will pull out clips & headbands and eat them). So she wears pigtails a lot. good thing she's so darn cute in them.  And no, I will not cut her hair (BROOKE).
  • This is why I should post things right away... Adelaide is a master of climbing stairs now.  She can go up really fast with no hesitation. I turn away for a second and she is already half way up already. And she has so much fun doing it... just giggling the whole way up. Here's another video from Father's Day... so again, she's way better and faster now!

We LOVE this girl. I can't wait to see more and more of her personality come out and see what she becomes interested in... will she want to do ballet or play soccer?? Either is fine with us! We are just so excited to watch this girl grow up. Not too fast, of course. But we are just really enjoying it all.

haha. that was not short at all.

A girl and her daddy

Well, I totally missed the boat on doing a special Father's Day post for Schub. Let it suffice to say that he is the most amazing dad out there. Adelaide is at the age now where there is nothing I can do for her that Schub can't also do. So he has been spending a lot of good time with her lately - play time, feeding time, story time, etc. I am really lucky to get to stay home from work and hang out with her all day long, but Schub really maximizes every waking moment he has with her. He gets up with her in the mornings just as often as I do, he plays with her every evening when he's done working while dinner is cooking, and he is actually really lucky to work from home and get little glimpses of her throughout the day (i.e. when we barge in after nap time and try to convince him to take a vacation day)

here is a little video of some of their play time together that was taken the night we got home from our long trip. Homegirl obviously did not forget her daddy after 9 days away. Adelaide was doing some major laughing until, of course, I took out the camera. I actually think it's hilarious how she notices the camera and then starts doing her fake laugh, just to ham it up a bit :-)

Anyway, we had a great Father's Day (I'm assuming Schub would say the same). It was really relaxing - no evening activities at church or anything. We just hung around the house all day and played with Adelaide a lot.

(Again, I think Adelaide's fake laugh is hilarious. But she is very obviously having fun)

What a better way to end Father's Day than bath time and a story with your sweet girl.

Adelaide's first time at the beach!!

This picture is of Adelaide's very first touch of the BEACH! You may not be able to tell here, but she definitely warmed up quickly.

When I was in Summerville for the week, my friend Amber and I took our girls to the beach. It wasn't quite what we remembered a trip to the beach being like in high school. haha. I had this vision of filling up a little baby pool and the girls would sit contently and play while we sat on our towels and chatted. Well, I don't think I saw Amber much the whole time and we certainly didn't do much chatting. Little Ever is a walker now and only wanted to be in the water no matter how many times Amber tried to lure her back to the sand to play.  I did, in fact, fill up a baby pool with water for Adelaide to play in, but she was so taken by the feel of the sand in her fingers that she would literally throw herself over the edge of the pool to get back to the sand.
Adelaide definitely loved the water too! Here's a little video of her playing in the waves. (sorry for the bad camera work... I was trying to be far enough away to film her, but close enough to catch her if she tipped into the water.)

As you can see, Adelaide was all smiles... in the water, in the pool, on the sand... wherever. Guess she's gonna love the beach just like her mama :-)

We missed you, Miles!  Can't wait to see you in a few weeks here in KG!!

Catching up!

I have been home for a whole week now from my 9 day trip through VA, NC, and SC with my baby and my dog while Jason was at the PCA General Assembly in VA Beach. So I figured it was time to catch up on the blog and post a few pics. Actually, it's probably better that I'm doing it this way b/c I'll be much more concise with my words and pictures than I would have been if I posted all of these as I went along.

I started my trip by going to Roanoke, VA to see some wonderful friends from college and go Elizabeth's baby shower.  It was at some point that weekend that I realized I had left for a 9 day trip to visit with family and friends, brought my camera, and left my memory card. So the pictures from Roanoke are courtesy of E, Meg and Courtney. thanks girls.

Adelaide's first time in a big pool! It was freezing and she loved it anyway.

Courtney, Elizabeth, Me, Adelaide and Meg. It was SO good and so refreshing to hang out with such good friends!

From Roanoke I went to Charlotte for one night only. But it was a VERY good night! I got to see Jason's parents, Aunt Meredith, cousin Anna, and Adelaide and I got to meet Jason's Nana, who has just moved from Texas to Charlotte, for the very first time! I can't believe I didn't get a picture of Nana holding Adelaide, but I'm sure we'll be down there again soon. And of course I got to see my sister, bro-in-law and 3 nephews before I headed down to.... CHARLESTON!

Oh, and my dad had volunteered to watch Brooke's two younger boys that week, so it was me, Adelaide, Nacho, Noah, and Griffin all packed in the minivan. Thank goodness for the Nintendo DS.  The week was fun and relaxing. I went to Zumba with my best friend Amber every day, went to the beach (of course), went shopping with my mom, saw my friend from Clemson Lindsey and her little girl Faith who was born 2 days after Adelaide, saw several other friends from high school, and went to a wedding that Saturday night. phew!
(no pics from the wedding and the pics of Adelaide and Faith turned out awful :-(  )

the boys in the pool playing with Nacho

Adelaide snuggling with Pop - there was a lot of this going on all week :-)

me and Amber and our girls!! It was SO fun - and kind of surreal - to hang out with Amber and Ever. I'm pretty sure we just met in 6th grade like 2 days ago.

It was a really really good week and made me really really miss living in Summerville. But believe it or not, I was happy to be HOME in King George.... and Jason was glad to have us all home :-)
