the update IS..... we don't have one yet. We've applied for several dogs on petfinder, but most of them we haven't heard back from, and one of them plainly rejected us because we didn't have a vet reference. bah humbug. We've also been to the King George animal shelter twice (there's a lot of turnover there), but as you can imagine, there aren't very many options. We were actually very close to coming home with a sweet pit bull last week, but decided against it. ha.
soooo.... this Friday we are driving up to Fairfax (our neighbors who are familiar with the area have told us we are crazy to venture up toward D.C. at ANY time, and even moreso on a Friday evening) to go to an adoption event that a Northern VA rescue is hosting a Petsmart up there. We have ONE dog in mind that we have been tracking from craiglist to petfinder to this rescue that we really want (a labradoodle). We are hoping we look better in person than we apparently do on paper. Please cross your fingers! We'll keep you posted.

Schub - I know you want a big dog, but we have a deal for you. We are looking for someone to keep Ridley for a year while we rent in San Diego. We'll pay for food and routine vet. After a year, if you want her you can keep her. If you don't, we'll gladly take her back (hopefully we will buy a house by that point and have better accommodations for her. I know it's a long way to VA, but we'll find a way to get her there.

I say go as far as needed to get a dog. I mean some people go to China for a kid. I think it is acceptable to go to DC for a dog. Good Luck!!! Those dogs just don't know what they are missing out on my not living with the Schubs.
